Stanthorpe & the Granite Belt

Granite Belt Wine Country, with Stanthorpe at its heart, is a wine and food lover’s paradise.  Known as Queensland’s premier wine region, it boasts more than 50 wineries, vineyards and cellar doors.  The Strange Bird Alternative Wine Trail and Nude Food Trail are not to be missed.

On a tour through the Granite Belt not only will you come across award-winning wines, seasonal produce, regional cuisine, farmhouse cheeses, olives, jams and preserves and other treats, but spectacular National Parks (Girraween is a must), lavender farms, art galleries and museums, and so much more.

Stanthorpe is also known as Queensland’s coolest town and with altitudes exceeding 1,000 metres above sea level, Brass Monkey Season® (as the locals refer to winter) brings frosty mornings and the odd snowfall.  However, the Granite Belt does enjoy four distinct seasons and Spring (Primavera) celebrates the release of new wines, wildflowers and the bud burst.  For delicious stone fruit and berries, Summer is the best time to visit and for the beautiful golden hues, a visit during Autumn is a must.

For must see events, you can’t go past Stanthorpe’s iconic Apple and Grape Harvest Festival (biennial), but no matter when you visit the Granite Belt there is sure to be an event that’ll take your fancy – markets, art exhibitions, musical events in the vineyard, themed dinners, concerts and more.
