Main Range National Park, following an arc of rugged peaks and ridges, is the crucial western link in south-east Queensland's remarkable Scenic Rim. Crossed by the Cunningham Highway, this park in a World Heritage area offers an impressive waterfall, challenging hikes and easy rainforest walks with wonderful views. For terrific views and experiences: at Cunningham's Gap picnic area, try the Rainforest circuit or stroll to Fassifern Valley lookout (both short walks); zigzag up Mount Cordeaux (lyrebirds and scarlet-flowered giant spear lilies) or Mount Mitchell (sheer cliff face). Enjoy a picnic at Queen Mary Falls, which plunge an impressive 40 metres. From Spicer's Gap camping area, walk the bullock-dray trail and camp near pioneer graves. (Take your own fuel stove.) Experienced walkers can hike for several days along the Scenic Rim.
