Rattle the Stars on the Waterstones Throne of Glass Tour of UK (2024)!

Calling all Sarah J. Maas fans, did you know that Bloomsbury has partnered with Waterstones to bring a Throne of Glass tour to the UK?

That’s right, to celebrate the re-release of the epic fantasy book series, Bloomsbury is bringing a real-life ‘glass’ throne to select stores around the country.

Each Waterstones store will only have the throne for around two weeks, so you’ll need to catch it while you can!

I am a big Maas fan and loved visiting bookish locations like the real-life Velaris from ACOTAR.

So, I popped by the Manchester Andale store and got the chance to channel my inner Aelin and rattle the stars.

Here’s how you can see the magical Waterstones Throne of Glass Tour for yourself and do the same…

“You could rattle the stars…you could do anything, if only you dared. And deep down, you know it, too. That’s what scares you most.” – Throne of Glass

Warning: If you have not finished the Throne of Glass series yet, there may be some spoilers in this post.

Introducing Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Throne of Glass is an eight-part fantasy book series that follows Celaena Sardothien, a deadly assassin that is freed from the salt mines of Endovier.

She was imprisoned there for her crimes but is released by Prince Dorian Havilliard on the condition that she enters the King’s Champion Tournament.

It takes place in Adarlan’s capital of Rifthold and the victor will become the King’s Champion.

But, all is not what it seems and it soon becomes apparent that the corrupt and tyrannical King of Adarlan is keeping a deadly secret.

The story unfolds from there and becomes much more complex with conspiracies, magic, and battles to fight at every turn.

She meets many friends and enemies along the way like Princess Nehemia, Chaol Westfall, Lysandra, Aedion Ashryver, Rowan Whitehorn and the Cadre, Elide Lochan, Lorcan Salvaterre, Manon Blackbeak, and others.

It was originally published in 2012 starting with Throne of Glass and ended with Kingdom of Ash in 2018.

Throne of Glass joins two more popular fantasy series that have been written by Sarah J. Maas. These are A Court of Thorns and Roses and Crescent City

Like many other fantasy romance readers, I am completely Maas obsessed and I cannot wait to see where these books will lead.

Sarah J. Maas and Bloomsbury recently announced the re-release of the Throne of Glass book series.

It was revealed that each of the eight books has had beautiful new artwork created for both the paperback and hardback versions of the story.

To celebrate, Bloomsbury has created a real-life throne for a Waterstones Throne of Glass tour of the UK.

The installation is a large green throne that has the Stag of Terrasen, or ‘Lord of the North’, and The Glass Palace on it.

Fans can stop by the store, pick up a book and take a seat. It makes the perfect photo opportunity and a chance to relive the legend.

But, you’ll need to be quick as each store will only have the throne for around two weeks before it moves on to the next store…

Channel your inner Aelin and rattle the stars!

As I was heading back from the Yorkshire Dales, I decided to pop into the Waterstones in Manchester Arndale to visit their installation.

It was a beautiful set up with the glass throne, garlands of sparkly moons and stars and it was surrounded by lots of Maas books!

I’m not going to lie, I took way too many photos of this and they even had a gold crown to wear and pose with.

It’s quite rare that these book installations come to the UK, usually, these are a popular thing in US bookstores like Barnes & Noble (who also get most of the Sarah. J. Maas exclusive edition books).

So, I would definitely take the opportunity to visit this amazing real-life Throne of Glass while you can.

Remember to post your photos on social media and tag the store on the relevant channels. They will pick their favourite photos and re-share them!

Why read Throne of Glass?

Reading Throne of Glass is a journey. It’s an entire universe that will stick with you long after you’ve finished!

It’s filled with incredible world-building, inspiring quotes, and powerful female characters.

There’s mystery, magic, wyverns, steamy romances, epic battles, and lots and lots of emotional damage throughout.

It is one of my favourite book series of all time and, without a doubt, one of the best fantasy series ever written!

I’m obsessed with Elorcan (Elide x Lorcan) my favourite book couple and I would quite happily read an entire book series about those two!

Rowan, Aelin, Dorian, and Manon are my best-loved characters, and Empire of Storms is my go-to book.

My favourite Throne of Glass quotes

Here is a selection of my all-time favourite quotes from the series. Some of these, hand to heart, give me shivers;

  • “Libraries were full of ideas ― perhaps the most dangerous and powerful of all weapons.” (Throne of Glass)
  • “Still, the image haunted his dreams throughout the night: a lovely girl gazing at the stars, and the stars who gazed back.” (Throne of Glass)
  • “You could rattle the stars…you could do anything, if only you dared. And deep down, you know it, too. That’s what scares you most.” (Throne of Glass)
  • “I will not be afraid.” (Throne of Glass)
  • “You didn’t need a weapon at all when you were born one.” (Heir of Fire)
  • “You cannot pick and choose what parts of her to love.” (Heir of Fire)
  • “You make me want to live, Rowan. Not survive; not exist. Live.” (Queen of Shadows)
  • “The world,” Aelin said, “will be saved and remade by dreamers.” (Empire of Storms)
  • “Even when this world is a forgotten whisper of dust, between the stars, I will love you.” (Empire of Storms)
  • “Do not be afraid of what makes you shine brightly.” (Empire of Storms)
  • “I’d walk into the burning heart of hell itself to find you.” (Empire of Storms)
  • “You do not yield.” (Kingdom of Ash)
  • “To whatever end?” she breathed. Rowan followed her, as he had his entire life, long before they had ever met, before their souls had sparked into existence. “To whatever end, Fireheart.” (Kingdom of Ash)
  • “We are the Thirteen,” she said. “From now until the Darkness claims us.” (Kingdom of Ash)
  • “So Lorcan did.” (joke, this is my villain origin story…I’m still so bitter. We were ROBBED dammit)

How to read the Throne of Glass series

If you wanted to start the Throne of Glass book series but aren’t sure where to start. Here is my suggested reading order;

  • Throne of Glass
  • Crown of Midnight
  • Heir of Fire
  • Assassin’s Blade
  • Queen of Shadows
  • Kingdom of Ash

Another way is the publication order which is Assassin’s Blade, Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, Heir of Fire, Queen of Shadows, Empire of Storms/Tower of Dawn tandem, and Kingdom of Ash. This is how I read it and I have no regrets.

Whichever way you decide to read this magical adventure, just know that you will fall in love with it and become utterly obsessed with the world and characters!

Catch the Waterstones Throne of Glass Tour before it leaves the UK

The Bloomsbury Waterstones Throne of Glass Tour is running until the end of August / early September and finishes in London.

So, there’s still lots of time to chase the Terrasen throne down in one of the select UK stores.

The best way to keep up to date with the throne tour is to check Bloomsbury’s UK social channels for updates. Or, many of the Waterstones stores have their own channels too!

I had so much fun visiting the real-life Throne of Glass installation and it’s the perfect trip for any Sarah J. Maas fan. So, go on and rattle the stars.
